The 2019 Chevy Equinox takes you from city to country in all kinds of weather while protecting all your riders and entertaining you with the latest technology. Choose from among three trims like the L entry-level, the mid-level LS and LT, and the top-level Premier. Both the LT and Premier are available with multiple engine choices and all trims above the L come in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive versions.

Performance

The standard 1.5-liter Turbo 4-cylinder in the new Chevy Equinox mates to a 6-speed automatic transmission and features Dual Overhead Cams, Direct-Injection and Variable Valve Timing. The result is 170 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque as well as an EPA-estimated 32 MPG on the highway and 26 MPG in the city.

For boosting performance, the available 2.0-liter Turbo 4-cylinder delivers 252 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque using the same engine technologies but with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The final choice is the available 1.6-liter Turbo-Diesel 4-cylinder generates 137 horsepower and 240 lb.-ft. of torque with its 6-speed automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency achieves 39 MPG on the highway and 28 MPG in the city.

Standard on all three powerplants is stop/start technology that saves fuel by shutting the engine down at stops and restarting it again when you move your foot from brake to accelerator. Switchable All-Wheel Drive, which is available on the LS, LT, and Premier trims, you can choose between Front-Wheel Drive, which saves fuel, and All-Wheel Drive, which maximizes traction on slippery roads. The Driver Information Center advises you when it’s wise to switch to AWD.

Safety

While other vehicles give you a rearview camera to help you when you reverse out of a parking spot, the Equinox features available High Definition Surround Vision that shows a virtual overhead view of what’s around you. You can then more easily see nearby hazards during slow-speed maneuvering. Available Rear Cross Traffic Alert warns you about any cars trying to cross your backward path and Rear Park Assist lets you know if you’re getting too close to a stationary object.

Head forward and Forward Collision Alert warns you if you’re getting too close to a vehicle that you’re following or if a potential accident is up ahead. If you happen to be traveling at a slow speed, Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking can engage a stop if you do nothing to avoid an accident. If a person darts in front of you, Front Pedestrian Braking can also stop your vehicle.

If you wander from your current lane without a turn signal, Lane Departure Warning alerts you. Then Lane Keep Assist nudges the steering wheel to bring you back on the right path. Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert warns you if a vehicle has entered your blind spot as you try to change lanes. Go with the available Safety Alert Seat, and you can feel vibrations on the seat bottom in the direction of the hazard rather than hear safety alerts.
Make long trips easier by turning on Adaptive Cruise Control, which uses the speed you define to maintain a safe gap between your SUV and the vehicle ahead. When traffic slows down or speeds up, so does you automatically without you’re having to ride the throttle or brake.
